Several allied countries, including the United States, Britain and Denmark, are issuing a joint warning about the increased risk of Russian cyber attacks. Reuters writes on Wednesday. The attacks are to target the delivery of support to Ukraine as well as Western logistics and technology companies.

This includes in particular companies involved in the coordination, transportation and delivery of foreign assistance to Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Western tech companies have had to step up their preparedness since the start of the war in 2022, but now it seems that the Russian Intelligence Service (GRU) is once again increasing the pressure on cybersecurity.

Authorities in several countries have expressed concern about the increased cyber threat from Russia. In Denmark, it is the Danish Defense Intelligence Agency, the FBI in the US and the National Cyber Security Center in the UK (NCSC).

The statement has been signed by the NATO member states the US, the UK, Denmark, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, the Netherlands and Canada. The European countries are also part of the EU's cybersecurity organization Enisa (European Union for Cybersecurity).

The warning states that tech companies should prepare for the increased threat and take the necessary precautions. According to the report, the Russian actors are using known methods, which makes it possible to strengthen the defense by increasing surveillance in the areas that are usually most vulnerable when it comes to cyberattacks.

These include phishing, where hackers send out emails with links that can spread a virus, password spraying, where automated attempts are made to guess passwords, as well as various known GRU hacking systems.

In addition, it appears that the goal is not to hit individual companies, but is intended to weaken overall Western support for Ukraine.
