Vestas has entered into an agreement to acquire a blade factory in Goleniów in northwestern Poland from LM Wind Power. The factory has produced blades for Vestas' onshore turbines since 2009, and will now be operated as an integrated part of Vestas. The wind turbine manufacturer announced this in a press release.
The blade factory was expanded in 2017 and currently produces blades for, among other things, the V172-7.2 MW turbine. With the acquisition, Vestas expands its production capacity in Europe.
- Europe needs secure, affordable and sustainable energy more than ever before, and we are pleased to be able to expand our European production capacity to support the growing role of wind energy in the European energy system. I would like to thank LM Wind Power for their support and cooperation over the years, and we are very pleased that our respective strategic priorities have enabled the factory to continue operating and become part of Vestas’ continued growth in Europe, says Anders Nielsen, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Vestas.
At LM Wind Power, the management emphasizes that the transfer is made with confidence in Vestas as the future operator of the plant.
- This proposed transaction is a strategic step for LM Wind Power and GE Vernova. The transaction will enable us to simplify our business and reinvest capital in our core manufacturing facility in the EU, which produces wind products for GE Vernova, to better serve our loyal customer base in the EU. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Vestas on the proposed transfer of this factory, which was previously dedicated to their projects, directly into their ownership, so that it can continue to meet their needs, says Olivier Fontan, CEO of Vestas. CEO of LM Wind Power.
The parties did not disclose the sales price for the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval.
