VARDE: An almost unanimous city council in Varde decided on Tuesday evening that there will no longer be local planning for individual solar parks in the municipality. In addition, a solar map, which has so far been part of the municipal plan, will be dropped.
The reason is the new demands in the green tripartite that there must be more nature, low-lying soils are taken up and much more forest is raised. And then there will not necessarily be room for a lot of solar parks either.
- We have been continuously talking about how we use our areas for the right things. Even though we are geographically a large municipality, there are many interests, emphasized Mayor Mads Sørensen (V) and mentioned that the defense alone takes up ten percent of the municipality's area.
The political agreement on renewable energy in Varde
- There is no local planning for individual solar parks in the municipality.
- The solar map is removed from the municipal plan.
- Upcoming application deadlines for renewable energy plants are put on hold.
- Combined projects with solar and wind and requests for green energy established in sector-linked projects can be established upon application.
- Single solar parks on areas where there are drinking water resources that need to be protected can be accommodated.
- Solar cells on municipal roofs and agricultural/commercial buildings should be promoted where possible and appropriate.
The decision means that several planned solar cell projects will be rejected or put on hold, while others will be allowed to continue because they are combined projects.
Two independent members and the Danish People's Party's single member are outside the agreement. The two independent members argued that this is a hasty decision.
Timeout
The chairman of the planning and technical committee, Preben Friis-Hauge (V), on the other hand, declared himself happy with the agreement that "the municipality's area will be better looked after".
- We are a large geographical municipality, but we will probably have difficulty getting bigger unless we buy another municipality. It is so popular to buy all sorts of land these days, but I don't think it is particularly realistic, he said, calling the agreement a timeout where the areas can be reconsidered.
- Maybe the same area can be used for both wind turbines and solar cells, or maybe solar cells can be made in the forests, if possible, he said.
The administration also stated that there is an increasing number of inquiries about solar cells on agricultural and commercial buildings. The expectation is that there will be a further expansion of capacity for this type of solar cells in the coming years.
