Starting from Thorsminde Harbour, CTVs like the ones in the foreground can quickly sail crews out to the offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Later, it will be possible to use the upcoming helipad at the harbour.

Thorsminde hopes new "weapon" can attract even more offshore wind

Torsminde Port will be the first and for now the only one on the northern part of the West Coast to get a heliport. The West Jutland port hopes that this will attract more offshore wind projects.

Offshore wind projects for at least three GW are currently being tendered in the North Sea off the west coast of Jutland. Many ports have their eyes firmly set on these offshore wind projects, as they can secure revenue opportunities for the ports.

One of the ports that hopes to play a central role in relation to the upcoming offshore wind farms in the North Sea is Thorsminde Port. And in order to secure a role in some of the upcoming projects, the port has now established a heliport.

The West Jutland port, which is located in Holstebro Municipality, will now soon have the shortest route to many of the possible offshore wind projects. The port states this in a statement.

The heliport in Thorsminde will be the first and for the time being the only one on the northern part of the West Coast. It will be built at the southern end of the port within walking distance of the quayside and the facilities in the area. This means that all the prerequisites are in place for fast and efficient transport to and from the upcoming offshore wind farms.

- Thorsminde Port will be attractive for the upcoming offshore wind farms in the North Sea. There is both great local support and municipal goodwill to make the projects successful so that they meet the needs of the wind industry, says H.C. Østerby (S), mayor of Holstebro Municipality, and he continues:

- At the same time, we are also helping to secure the green electricity that will be the basis for Energy Hub Holstebro and the Power-to-X projects that are on the way. We therefore hope, together with the port, to be able to welcome several of the key players in the industry, with all the significance it can have for growth, jobs and settlement in Thorsminde.

Good cooperation with major offshore wind players

The company RWE is building a service and administration building at the port to operate the Thor offshore wind farm, while the companies Vattenfall and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy have been established at the port in connection with the construction of the coastal offshore wind farms Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd.

-  We have a really good cooperation with the large and professional players who have established themselves at the port. The ongoing expansion with new quay meters is a good example of our flexibility and willingness to meet and act on specific requirements from the wind industry, says Port Director Lisette Sønderby.
