Regional recommendations receive praise from DI and Danish Shipping Association

Seven regional growth teams have submitted their recommendations to the government for regional and sustainable development. The initiatives have been praised by the Confederation of Danish Industry, Danish Shipping and the government.

In connection with the North Sea Agreement from last year, the government promised to establish a regional growth team that would help, among other things, the Esbjerg area to find a new direction, after the government has concluded the eighth tender round and put an end to the Danish oil and gas adventure in 2050.

This subsequently resulted in seven regional growth teams, each of which has come up with its own growth plan for the region based on the region's special position of strength after three months of work. The recommendations are receiving praise from several quarters.

The Danish Business Development Agency, which works to provide Danish companies throughout the country with the best development opportunities through locally anchored business promotion efforts, is responsible for the concrete implementation of the REACT-EU funds.

- On behalf of the Danish Business Development Agency, I now look forward to collaborating with the government and local stakeholders to realize the visions for the lighthouses in the coming years, says Jakob Riis, chairman of the Danish Business Development Agency.

Blue and green visions

Overall, recommendations are being widely circulated, with, for example, North Jutland focusing on the capture, storage and non-use of CO2, Central Jutland focusing on water technology, Funen to be the center for robots, drones and shipping, while Bornholm is to be a green lighthouse and center in The Baltic Sea.

The strong focus on blue and green solutions pleases, for example, Danish Shipping Companies:

- The recommendations from the regional growth teams show that the time is ripe for concrete initiatives. It is positive that the seven growth teams recommend accelerating the expansion of offshore wind and embarking on the green visions with test and development projects for CO2 capture and storage, where transport by ship will play a key role. And Bornholm is strategically well located in the Baltic Sea to eventually become a kind of green fuel terminal for shipping, says Jacob K. Clasen, Vice Adm. CEO of Danish Shipping.

Recommendations must not stand alone

According to DI, the recommendations contain important answers to how to strengthen regional business development, promote the green transition and maintain a healthy balance between business investments in positions of strength both in and outside the larger cities in Denmark.

However, it is important that the recommendations are followed up with political action.

- It is important that we constantly work to ensure stable framework conditions for Danish companies. This applies regardless of which geographical area we focus on. Therefore, I urge the government to also focus on how we can make it simpler and cheaper to do business throughout Denmark - and not least implement the reforms that can ensure that companies have the necessary workforce, says Emil Fannikke Kiær, political director at the Confederation of Danish Industry.

The government, the Radical Left, the Socialist People's Party, the Unity List and the Alternative have allocated 500 million under the Finance Act from the so-called REACT-EU program to follow up on the recommendations.
