PARLIAMENT: The government, together with a broad majority in the Folketing, has entered into a 'Climate Agreement on Green Electricity and Heat 2022'. The agreement means that, by 2030, framework conditions will be secured that can enable a quadrupling of total electricity production from solar cells and wind turbines on land. This requires a major effort across the entire Danish society - the state, the municipalities, the private sector and, not least, citizens and local communities.

The National Plan Report 2022, which has now been sent for public consultation, therefore focuses on planning for renewable energy in Denmark. The report shows some of the tools that the municipalities have to implement the government's ambitions. It should help the municipalities to shoulder the great responsibility that rests on them so that we can be free from Russian gas.

- Putin's invasion of Ukraine has proven that security and energy policy go hand in hand. In the coming years, municipalities will face a comprehensive task of spatial planning, so that the expansion of renewable energy can take place by 2030. They will now receive good advice and guidance for this with the National Plan Report 2022. It is primarily aimed at municipalities, but I hope that energy players, interest groups and local communities will also read it. We need everyone on deck, says Minister of the Interior and Housing Christian Rabjerg Madsen.

The report outlines the main challenges that municipalities face when planning for renewable energy, but also goes into depth with a number of the solutions and tools that are available to municipal planners. For example, it is absolutely crucial that the good experiences from the many success stories around the country can serve as inspiration for other municipalities. Therefore, the report offers, among other things, on selected cases that illustrate how various municipalities are working constructively and innovatively to find solutions to planning challenges associated with the expansion of renewable energy.
