Ørsted has opened applications for its largest ever wind turbine apprenticeship programme in the UK in 2025. The four-year programme offers technical skills, offshore experience and an opportunity to contribute to the green transition. The apprentices will gain practical experience at Ørsted’s facilities in Barrow-in-Furness, Birkenhead and Grimsby, among others. Ørsted writes in a press release.
With the UK’s ambition to achieve 43-50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, the workforce in the sector is expected to triple to over 100,000. Ørsted’s apprenticeship programme will ensure that future technicians are given the necessary skills to support this development.
- This is an opportunity to gain first-hand experience with the latest technology in renewable energy. We are expanding our programme to train the next generation of technicians. If you enjoy solving problems, working outdoors and being part of a close-knit team, this apprenticeship is a solid start to an exciting career, says Ørsted's operations apprentice manager Rob Howes.
Apprentices start with a year of schooling at North Lindsey College, after which they spend three years offshore at one of Ørsted's 12 wind farms. After completing their education, they obtain a maintenance & operations engineering technician (MOET) qualification. Over 95 percent of apprentices continue in permanent positions at Ørsted.
Ørsted in the UK is accepting applications until 21 March 2025. Applicants must be over 16 years of age with basic school-level skills in maths, English and science.
