The Danish energy company Ørsted has won the right to build another offshore wind farm in the United States. Ørsted announced this in a statement to the Danish Stock Exchange.

The award has been decided by the authorities in the US state of New Jersey, which is located on the east coast of the United States. Ørsted's farm will be located off the coast of New Jersey and will have a capacity of 1,148 MW.

This is the second time that the authorities in New Jersey have awarded Ørsted the right to build an offshore wind farm in the state. The first time was back in 2019.

While the first project is called Ocean Wind 1, the new project is called Ocean Wind 2. The first is expected to be operational by 2025 at the latest and the second in 2029.

- With Ocean Wind 1 and 2, we will deliver more than 2,300 megawatts of offshore wind energy to New Jersey, while at the same time attracting leading producers to the state, says Martin Neubert, deputy CEO and commercial director of Ørsted, in the announcement.

Ørsted has already secured commitments from GE Renewables, one of the largest wind turbine manufacturers in the world, to locate a new facility in New Jersey. The facility will be used to assemble the nacelles for Ocean Wind 2 and other offshore wind projects in the US, Ørsted explains.

Ørsted is not the only energy developer that has been chosen by the authorities in New Jersey to build offshore wind turbines in the state. Oil giant Shell has also bid, together with EDF Renewables, under the Atlantic Shores consortium.
