The large drone was observed by several employees on Wednesday, on the Tyra field at 1:15 p.m. – just after lunch. The Tyra field is located approximately 200 km out in the North Sea.
It is a fixed-wing gray drone in the color that military aircraft usually have in Denmark. The wingspan is estimated to be around five meters. This is what Danish Offshore Industry, DOI.dk, learns.
- It was a very large drone, where the wings together had a diameter of around five meters, says one of those who saw the drone.
Normally, no drone would be able to escape being immortalized on a smartphone camera. But employees on the North Sea are not allowed to have their phones with them when they work. Therefore, in all likelihood, no pictures of the giant drone exist.
After the drone was observed, contact was made with the Danish police. Several employees have been questioned by the police by telephone.
The following is said about the drone:
- It was not an ordinary drone at all. It was far away, but it was surprisingly silent. When it finally disappeared over the horizon, it took a very sharp turn, which you don't see with an ordinary plane, says the eyewitness.
No police have investigated the Tyra field
Employees at the Tyra field are wondering where the drone came from. The Danish National Police has confirmed to Danish Offshore Industry several times that drone activity has been reported at the oil and gas fields, and that they are being investigated.
The employees at Tyra don't notice anything. The investigation is apparently not taking place offshore in the North Sea, but on land - 200 km away. In the North Sea it sounds like this:
- The police have not been here, and there is no surveillance with cameras, says the witness.
It has not been possible to get a comment from the National Police on today's drone sighting at the Tyra field.
