If the processing of renewable energy plants is reduced, it could result in significant savings for consumers, according to the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

Faster wind turbine setup can save electricity customers billions

With the right effort, Danish electricity consumers can save well over DKK 19 billion. DKK towards 2030, says Dansk Erhverv based on an analysis by Ea Energianalyse.

19 billion This is how much companies and private customers can save on their electricity bills towards 2030, if the government brings forward the installation of wind turbines, which is already planned today. This shows a calculation that Ea Energianalyse has made for Dansk Erhverv.

In order to achieve the savings, the calculations show that two GW of onshore wind and six GW of offshore wind must be brought forward by two to three years, the business organization states in a statement.

Currently, the EU is giving birth to plans to tax electricity producers' extraordinarily large profits and reform the electricity market. This is the completely wrong way to go, says CEO of Dansk Erhverv, Brian Mikkelsen.

The trade association has therefore presented a proposal for an emergency package with six proposals for renewable energy that can help drive the green development of the electricity grid forward.

The six points in Dansk Erhverv's emergency plan contain, among other things, a desire for a green treatment guarantee, so that renewable energy projects are approved in a maximum of six months, and that grid connection of new renewable energy production must be done much faster.

- If you get a green treatment guarantee, the incentive to invest will follow. If our proposal is implemented, there will be good conditions for a large number of wind turbines to be erected very quickly, says Brian Mikkelsen.

Minister will not rule out case processing guarantee

Opposite Finans.dk welcomes Vestas' CEO Henrik Andersen's initiatives to promote faster approvals. Especially in the field of onshore wind, the situation is unsatisfactory, believes the wind turbine boss, who indicates that Vestas can deliver 500 onshore wind turbines by 2025 - which will also result in a large billion saving for electricity consumers.

"That is why the EU should also focus on lowering the electricity bill for consumers by getting much more wind energy, instead of taxing what you want more of," he writes in an email to the media.

According to the Minister for Climate, Energy and Supply, Lars Aagaard (M), the government is working to remove the challenges for a faster spread of wind energy

"I completely share the desire that we eliminate barriers and unnecessary bureaucracy so that we can reduce the processing time. That is why I do not want to reject the idea of a green processing guarantee in advance," he writes in an email.

Dansk Erhverv's Emergency Package consists of the following six points:

  1. A green processing guarantee, so that renewable energy projects are approved in a maximum of 6 months.
  2. A new target for the development of renewable energy on land of a minimum of 1 GW of wind and 500 MW of solar annually.

  3. The authorities' processing of the 13 GW of offshore wind that is currently applied for via the previous open-door scheme must be stepped up so that the projects can be approved as quickly as possible.

  4. Grid connection of new production of renewable energy must happen much faster.

  5. There needs to be clarity about the tariffs as soon as possible.

  6. Stable framework conditions for investments in renewable energy. Therefore, a government payment model from plants should not include renewable energy on land. The revenue ceiling for renewable energy must be implemented gently and not extended, while the European electricity market design must be maintained.
