Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm is being relocated

Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm is being moved south to a new location due to poor bottom conditions at the previous location.

A really bad piece of news for the green transition in Denmark hit the news a little over a year ago. Energinet presented the soil analyses for the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm. And the results presented were certainly not good.

Energinet's studies showed difficult soil conditions in the form of soft clay soil in the uppermost meters of the seabed at the site for the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm. Therefore, the hunt was launched for a new location for the offshore wind farm, and one has now been found.

Thus, the government, the Liberal Party, the Socialist People's Party, the Danish Radical Left, the United Unity Party, the Conservative People's Party, the Danish People's Party, the Liberal Alliance, the Alternative and the Christian Democrats have decided with the 'Climate Agreement on Green Electricity and Heat of 25 June 2022' that the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm will be moved to an area south of the original Hesselø area.

The political agreement on the new location is based on a new fine screening that the Danish Energy Agency has had prepared by COWI. The fine screening shows, among other things, that the area south of the original Hesselø area is a good alternative, as the seabed is considered to be better suited for the construction of the park, the Danish Energy Agency states in a press release.

The Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm is planned to have a capacity of 800-1,200 MW and is expected, until the delay, to be put into operation and connected to the electricity grid in 2027. The project is now expected to deliver first electricity in 2028 and be fully completed in 2029.
