The expansion of renewable energy and Power-to-X (PtX) can create significant local value – not only in the form of jobs, but also through investments, green initiatives and development in local communities. According to calculations from Rambøll Management Consulting, the expansion of 1 GW of solar, wind and PtX can contribute around DKK 9.4 billion in value creation and 14,800 full-time equivalents – a significant portion of which is local.

The new analysis "The social value of renewable energy and PtX" from Rambøll has been prepared at the request of eight Danish municipalities, and shows that the municipalities play a central role as a driving force in the rollout of green energy. The projects are already contributing with local employment, new partnerships and concrete improvements in local communities, including through Green Pool projects, CO2-neutral district heating, improved infrastructure and collaborations between business and education.

- The analysis shows that renewable energy and PtX projects are not only about producing green energy - they create new investments, collaborations and business opportunities that can change local economies. With the analysis, we have a foundation to stand on, and we have obtained data and figures that can support our future work with local planning of both renewable energy and PtX projects but also the important follow-up projects in Aabenraa Municipality, says Jan Riber Jakobsen (C), mayor of Aabenraa Municipality, in a press release.

The analysis is based on data and experiences from Aabenraa, Varde, Vejen, Ringkøbing-Skjern, Hjørring, Holstebro, Vesthimmerland and Lolland, which together contain a large part of Denmark's future renewable energy and PtX capacity. It was prepared on the initiative of Aabenraa Municipality, which has large amounts of solar energy and also a large PtX plant within the municipal boundaries. In the South Jutland municipality, the positive consequences of the green industry's intrusion have been felt.

- The green transition is not only about implementing renewable energy and Power-to-X, but also to a large extent about creating completely new opportunities for local communities, which with green investments gain access to derived effects both environmentally, economically, commercially and socially. So in order to realize the full potential, we must continue to work with the whole and strive to reap maximum added value on all parameters. This analysis is an important tool for this, says Aabenraa Municipality's Head of PtX Development, Hanne Klintøe.
