Energy Island can become a major job creator for Bornholm

10. NOV 2025 15.30

BORNHOLM: Bornholm could get up to 1,000 permanent jobs if the energy island and business park are realized, according to new calculations from Sweco. According to the analysis, between 1,700 and 1,900 workers will be needed during the construction phase, many of whom are expected to be commuters or temporarily residing on the island. This is reported by TV2 Bornholm.

However, many jobs will also be permanent. Approximately half of the estimated thousand jobs will be related to the operation and service of wind farms and the transformer station. But according to Sweco, it could be even more interesting for the Bornholm job market if additional industries such as PtX plants and data centers are attracted, which can use the large amounts of green electricity that the wind turbines will produce. The total job creation in the operational phase for projects like these varies from around 480 to 560 jobs, Sweco estimates.

If the project comes to fruition, Energiø Bornholm is expected to be completed in 2036 at the earliest.
