Although the Danish Church's right to object has sparked debate, new figures show that it has only rarely been used. Between 2017 and 2024, the Danish Church has only objected to the construction of wind turbines or solar cells seven times. This is shown in a response from the Ministry of Church Affairs to Minister of Church Affairs Morten Dahlin (V). The Danish Church's right to object applies to construction up to one kilometer from churches and up to two kilometers if the construction exceeds 250 meters in height. This is what Kristeligt Dagblad writes.
- Since 2017, lots of wind turbines have been built, and the fact that the right to object has only been used seven times shows that it is being used with care. It also shows that the founders have good cooperation with the municipalities, says Elof Westergaard, bishop of Ribe Diocese.
Brian Vad Mathiesen, professor of energy planning at Aalborg University, does not see the number as alarming, but emphasizes that objections can delay projects. He does, however, indicate that the seven objections may have delayed projects, "It is not necessarily constructive," says the professor. In December, Morten Dahlin dropped a bill that would remove the Danish Church's right to object.
