The number of supply interruptions in the electricity sector increased from 26,289 in 2023 to 28,379 in 2024 – an increase of 8 percent. The largest increase is seen in the customer group other customers, which primarily consists of business customers. Here, the number of interruptions increased by 1,625, which constitutes 78 percent of the total increase. This is stated by the Danish Electricity Authority in a press release.

"Due to the large increase in supply interruptions among other customers, the Danish Electricity Authority will monitor the development in supply interruptions for this customer segment more closely going forward. If the increase continues, the Danish Electricity Authority will consider whether action should be taken to protect vulnerable consumers," the authority said in the release.

The Danish Electricity Authority's calculation shows that the increase in supply interruptions in the electricity sector covers a broad development across electricity trading companies. 51 percent of the companies reported more supply interruptions than the previous year, while 30 per cent had fewer and 19 per cent an unchanged number.

While there is no good news in the electricity sector, the trend in the gas sector is the opposite. Here, the number of supply interruptions fell from 1,814 in 2023 to 1,707 in 2024, corresponding to a decrease of 5.9 per cent. The 1,707 interruptions mean that 0.47 per cent of gas customers in Denmark experienced an interruption in supply last year.
