Danish Energy satisfied with energy island agreement but schedule disappointing

Dansk Energi is not satisfied that the deadline for energy islands in 2030 is being exceeded.

Danish Energy is satisfied with the agreement that a broad majority in the Danish Parliament has adopted today to build an artificial energy island in the North Sea.

- What started as a dream is now on its way to becoming a reality, albeit at a somewhat slower pace than is desirable, says Lars Aagaard, CEO of Dansk Energy.

The parties behind the agreement have agreed that the energy island in the North Sea will be established as a dammed island, where at least 3 GW of offshore wind will be connected. However, the island must in the long term be able to be expanded to have an effect of at least 10 GW.

The agreement on the construction of the energy island is an addition to the 2020 climate agreement. However, in connection with today's agreement, the timetable for when the energy islands will be completed has also been pushed back.

The parties thus agree that it is not possible to meet the previous deadline for completing the energy islands in 2030. Instead, the islands will be ready in 2033. This disappoints Dansk Energi.

- It is not good enough, and therefore both political and administrative forces should continuously come together to revisit the timetable. I appeal to the ministry to rethink the tender process and enter into dialogue with investors. We must use the green electricity from offshore wind to achieve our climate goals in 2030, says Lars Aagaard
