There is more and more green electricity in Denmark. That is why Denmark reached what Green Power Denmark calls "Green Energy Day 2024" on Monday, December 9. Thus, on this day, Denmark's solar cells and wind turbines had surpassed the green energy production from last year.
Specifically, the electricity production for 2024 reached 22.5 TWh, which was the entire production of last year. For example, wind turbines have produced a total of 18.8 TWh so far in 2024 against 17.3 TWh in the same period last year. This is due, among other things, to the commissioning of the offshore wind farms Vesterhav Nord and Syd, Green Power Denmark states on its website.
This is the third year in a row that Green Power Denmark is marking Green Energy Day, where green energy surpasses the previous year's production. Last year, the day fell on November 18.
64 percent of electricity consumption this year has been covered by green electricity. However, there is a need for further expansion of green energy. Because with the current political ambitions for the production of green energy in 2030, Denmark must already produce 22.5 TWh of green electricity by March 2030 – the same as we have produced this entire year (based on the Analysis Assumptions 2023).
"We are therefore still far from the target. In order to meet the political ambitions for 2030, production must be increased significantly, as the need for green electricity will only increase in line with the electrification of society," says Green Power Denmark.
