The electricity and fiber network group Andel has entered into an agreement with NK-Forsyning, which is the utility company of Næstved Municipality, to take over NKE-Elnet and its 18,000 network customers. This was announced by Andel in a press release.
The sale is part of the municipality's plans to reduce CO2 emissions by 70 percent by 2030 and achieve CO2 neutrality by 2050 at the latest. This requires expansion of the electricity grid so that it can handle, among other things, solar cells, charging stations and heat pumps. According to the municipality, Andel will be better able to carry out this task.
- The electrification of society is gaining momentum and there is a need for major investments. At the same time, the electricity grid is a fundamental part of our critical infrastructure, which must be continuously developed and secured against, for example, malicious attacks. Therefore, we in Næstved Municipality have asked ourselves whether we are the right owners of the relatively small urban electricity grid, which lies like an independent island in the middle of one of the very large Zealand electricity grids owned by Andel. And the answer is that we are not, says Carsten Rasmussen (S), mayor of Næstved Municipality.
According to Andel, the takeover is part of a strategy to combine the eastern Danish electricity grids into larger units that can ensure stable electricity supplies and support the green transition. In 2024, Andel's grid companies, Radius Elnet and Cerius, invested 2.3 billion DKK in the electricity grid.
- The electrification of our everyday lives is gaining momentum with more electric cars, more heat pumps and more green energy sources such as solar and wind with fluctuating production. This places new demands on the overall electricity grid, which is therefore being expanded and upgraded so that it can also deliver a stable and reliable electricity supply in the future. We can best achieve this by combining the eastern Danish electricity grids into a large unit with the necessary financial muscle, says Jesper Hjulmand, CEO of Andel.
The transaction is subject to approval by the authorities.
