Save money on your electricity bill from April 1st: Here's how

Lower grid tariffs from April 1 provide cheaper electricity during the summer months.
25. MAR 2025 8.42

From April 1, most grid companies will switch from winter to summer tariffs, which means lower costs for transporting electricity for many electricity customers. On average, customers will pay approximately 50 percent less in tariffs during the summer months. OK writes in a press release.

- Few people are aware that grid tariffs vary both during the day and during the year. But it is good to be aware of this if you want to save money, as you as an electricity customer can on average halve the costs for transporting electricity during the summer months, says Troels Skipper, OK's product manager.

According to figures from grid company Cerius, the reduction in grid tariffs is significant from winter to summer. During peak load periods, tariffs fall from 41.64 to 20.82 øre/kWh, while the peak load price is reduced from 124.91 to 54.13 øre/kWh. The off-load period remains unchanged.

The reason for the decrease in grid tariffs is that the load on the electricity grid is higher in winter, when there is a greater need for heating. In the summer months, the need falls, while the production of renewable energy from wind and solar increases.

- Until now, prices and higher winter tariffs have meant that electricity has almost always been cheapest at night, but we are moving into a summer period where lower tariffs and more solar energy mean that the cheapest electricity is often found in the afternoon hours, says Troels Skipper.

To take advantage of the summer tariffs, OK recommends that electricity customers use electricity when it is cheapest, plan the use of power-intensive appliances and charge their electric cars during the most advantageous hours.
