Region drops its own solar cell company

22. SEP 2025 14.50

SOUTHERN DENMARK: When it became a requirement that municipalities and regions were not allowed to operate or set up new solar cell plants under public authority, a number of municipalities and regions had to set up independent companies that could operate the solar cells. In the Region of Southern Denmark, VE Syd ApS was established for this purpose, but now the region has chosen to close the company to avoid audit costs. It is written JydskeVestkysten

As part of its proposal for a finance law, the government will, however, do away with the requirement. Therefore, the company will probably not be necessary in the future. The local media also writes that there has not even been any activity in the company since its establishment in 2023, because a number of projects have been slowed down or cancelled due to bureaucratic red tape. The expenses have therefore primarily gone to establishing and now closing the company.

- I don't have the [precise] figure, but it has cost us something because we have had external help with, among other things, the establishment of the company. There have been lawyer and accountant costs in connection with having it established, and we will not get that money back. No one has received a salary in the company as such, but working hours have been spent in connection with the establishment and closure of the company, says Peter Holm, who is the head of the building department at Region of Southern Denmark.
