AARHUS: Plans for large solar power plants in Aarhus have been put on hold after Energinet has designated a route for a new high-voltage power line from Aarhus to Aabenraa. This is reported by DR. The line, which is due to be completed in 2032, collides with several of the areas that Aarhus Municipality had set aside for solar power plants, making it more difficult to achieve the goal of CO2 neutrality in 2030.

Energinet's masts of up to 44 meters will occupy up to 40 percent of the areas that the municipality had designated for solar power plants. Therefore, the councilor for Technology and Environment, Nicolaj Bang (K), has put the ongoing planning on hold. According to climate committee chair Liv Gro Jensen (SF), politicians must now consider alternative solutions, including more wind turbines, if the climate goals are to be maintained.

Professor of energy system analysis at DTU, Marie Münster, believes that solar cells will eventually have to make way. She points out that high-voltage lines are necessary to transport green energy around the country, and that solar cell plants can be moved to new areas more easily.
