The government will establish ministries for Europe, public safety and emergency preparedness, as well as one for implementing the green tripartite. This is apparent from a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office, where Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) will present what the government's top brass discussed in August on Wednesday.
- We have discussed what is the most difficult thing in politics. How do you go from presenting a political proposal, negotiating it with the parties in the Folketing, entering into a political agreement and then actually making it work in reality afterwards, she says.
It is a novelty that the government is establishing a new ministry with a focus on implementing a political agreement. The green tripartite agreement from June includes, among other things, a CO2 tax on agriculture, the creation of 250,000 hectares of forest and the setting aside of low-lying soils and other lands for protected nature.
A key question is whether the minister will be given a seat in the government's coordination committee or economic committee, where a large part of the power is concentrated.
Denmark will take over the presidency of the EU next year, and the government is creating the position of Minister for Europe in this connection. When Denmark held the presidency in 2012, Nicolai Wammen (S) was Minister for Europe, but the position was abolished a year and a half later because the portfolio was too thin when the presidency was passed on.
The new ministry will, among other things, equip the power plant and the electricity grid
A Ministry for Public Security and Emergency Preparedness is being established, so that Denmark is better equipped to secure things like hospitals, power plants, the electricity grid and waterworks.
The government's former security policy advisor Michael Zilmer-Johns, among others, recommended it a year ago. And it has resonated in the Folketing and among experts.
Norway has gathered it into a directorate, while Sweden has an actual minister in the area. In Denmark, responsibility is spread across several public authorities. The government's basic plan states that the government will clarify how a ministry for national security can be established.
The government has not yet announced which people will sit in the ministries, which is expected to happen on Thursday when the reshuffle is presented.
In the same context, the government has appointed Dan Jørgensen (S) as a candidate to become the new EU Commissioner.
In addition, the government will gather all digital matters in one ministerial area.
