Politicians won't wait for Better Energy: Support for large solar park is gone

As you could read on DOI.dk on Thursday, Better Energy has postponed the purchase of land from a number of landowners in Kolding Municipality. The land was to be used to build a 341-hectare solar park in an area between Tankedalsvej, Vonsild and Svanemosen. Better Energy had originally planned to take over the land during 2025, but now wanted to postpone the takeover potentially until 2029 as a result of the fact that "the market situation has changed in a way that we have had to reassess our future energy projects", it was stated in an email to the landowners.

But now that postponement could end up costing the project its life. Thus, the 341 hectares were only part of a larger area of 853 hectares in an area that was to constitute "Grundvandspark Svanemosen", which is a project that was to be a combination of a nature, climate, drinking water and energy effort, which, among other things, was to ensure drinking water for Kolding Municipality's largest waterworks: Søndre Vandværk. Income from the solar park was to help secure the finances for the nature project, but according to a political majority in the city council, groundwater cannot wait for Better Energy's opinion that the market situation is better. Therefore, the majority is in favor of solar park now gone, writes JydskeVestkysten.

- We are not indifferent to our groundwater. That is why we have also said: Let us now investigate what it (the solar cell project ed.) can do for the drinking water. But now we are being confirmed that it is not solar cells that are supposed to protect the drinking water. Instead, TreFor is given a task that they must solve, says mayoral candidate Jakob Ville from the Liberal Party, who holds ten of the city council's 25 mandates.
