AABENRAA: Aabenraa Municipality has taken significant steps towards a greener future in recent years. A new evaluation of the municipality's climate plan shows an overall reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 19 percent since 2019, including through investments in renewable energy, climate-friendly transport solutions and climate adaptation.

Emissions in the energy sector have decreased by 72 percent, while transport emissions have been reduced by 27 percent and agriculture by 6.5 percent. In order to achieve the municipality's goal of a 70 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, efforts are being intensified with new projects such as increased use of renewable energy, expansion of charging stations, more electric buses and improved public transport.

- The green transition is underway in Aabenraa Municipality, and all the initiatives we have implemented in recent years must ensure continued progress towards our climate goal of a 70 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990, says Mayor Jan Riber Jakobsen (K), and elaborates:

- Many of the initiatives help our three major sectors – transport, agriculture, and energy – with the green transition. In the energy area, we have seen in recent years the establishment of Northern Europe's largest solar park in Kassø, the world's largest PtX plant for the production of e-methanol, and one of the world's largest biogas plants in Kliplev. These initiatives have cemented Aabenraa Municipality as a hotspot for green energy production, which not only contributes locally, but nationally and internationally.
