The new political agreement on offshore wind turbines is being positively received by Green Power Denmark, which notes the agreement's flexibility and market-friendly approach. The agreement could secure 3 GW of new capacity in the first half of the 2030s if the re-bidding is successful. But the organization emphasizes that the expansion at sea must not overshadow the need for action on land. This is Green Power Denmark's reaction to the plans presented by a settlement in the Danish Parliament on Monday.
- With the political agreement, one side of the professor's cube has been solved, so to speak, so that all the squares are blue for offshore wind supply. Now we must tackle the other sides of the cube, namely the conditions for green energy on land and a faster electrification of Denmark. We expect this to be done with the same zeal and commitment that we have seen during the offshore wind negotiations, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.
The organization points out that for many years a large part of the green electricity has come from onshore facilities that have been built without government support. On the contrary, developers have paid contributions to neighbors and municipalities. Green Power Denmark therefore believes that a targeted plan for the electrification of society is necessary - both to ensure the purchase of green electricity and to strengthen investments in renewable energy.
- The reason why we are setting up wind turbines and solar cells is to create the "fuel" for an electric Denmark and make us independent of imported energy. That is why electrification should now be given top priority. A society powered by electricity that we ourselves produce on land and at sea is both more competitive, safer and greener. Therefore, it is both important and right that politicians now commit to promoting an electric Denmark, says Kristian Jensen.
Without a significant shift in electrification, new production of green electricity risks outcompeting existing plants because consumption does not keep up. The organization therefore recommends a national target for electrification, more connections to foreign countries, increased pace of case processing at Energinet and a strengthened effort for the production of green fuels and PtX.
