Solar panel owners could face a large tariff increase.

Danish Solar Association warns: Tariffs for solar cells could increase by 7,000 percent.

A large increase in taxes could hit solar cell owners hard during a period when there is otherwise a need for more green energy, according to the Solar Cell Association.

The Danish Solar Association warns that new tariffs, which Green Power Denmark has notified to the Danish Electricity Supply Authority, could mean a drastic increase in costs for solar cell owners.

According to the association, a typical small business with a 40 kW solar cell system will in future have to pay DKK 4,500 annually in renewable energy capacity payment instead of the current availability payment of DKK 65. This corresponds to an increase of almost 7,000 percent. The association reported this in a press release.

The association believes that the significant increase will slow down the expansion of green energy from building solar cells in Denmark and hit solar cell owners hard. If the proposed tariffs are adopted, the association fears that solar cell owners will be placed significantly at a disadvantage compared to other consumers.

- It cannot possibly be in Denmark's interest, neither in terms of security policy nor climate policy, to make it less economically advantageous to invest in and produce renewable energy from solar cells in these times. The renewable energy capacity payment and the power payment will worsen the conditions for some solar cell owners, and it is completely the wrong way to go, says chairman of the Danish Solar Cell Association Flemming V. Kristensen.

Will have to pay tariffs even if they do not use the electricity grid

The new renewable energy capacity payment will mean that self-producers will have to pay an annual tariff to the grid companies, which is calculated based on the size of the solar cell system - even if they do not send electricity to the public electricity grid and thus do not burden the grid. According to the association, the charge in practice acts as a punishment for private individuals and businesses that invest in solar energy.

The industry emphasizes that the new tariff will affect both existing and future solar cell owners, including schools, companies, small farms, supermarkets and kindergartens.

- The new annual capacity tariff will affect both existing and new solar cell owners, e.g. schools, businesses, small farms, supermarkets and kindergartens, and at the same time, we are looking into implementing the EU's building directive in Denmark, which sets solar energy requirements for buildings. It is not coherent", continues Flemming V. Kristensen, chairman of the Danish Solar Cell Association.

The Danish Solar Cell Association is now awaiting the Danish Electricity Supply Authority's assessment of Green Power Denmark's notified tariff methods, which are expected to have a major impact on the future development of building solar cells in Denmark.
