The hydrogen industry praises the EU Commission's plan to make Europe independent of Russian energy - but warns against losing the pace of the green transition. This is what Hrintbranchen writes.
Energy and Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen has presented a roadmap this week that will show the way towards a fossil-free and self-sufficient Europe.
The hydrogen industry welcomes the initiative, but emphasizes that the ambitions must be followed up by concrete and rapid action on green energy.
- This is a major task of both an urgent and long-term strategic nature. It is clearly necessary that we cut the supply chains that link us to Russia as soon as possible. But at the same time, we must not risk replacing one fossil import dependency with another. We must hold fast to the recognition that the only viable way out of Europe's crises is via green energy, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen, CEO of Hrintbranchen. He continues:
- Green hydrogen and PtX are crucial for the transformation of sectors that cannot be directly electrified – including, not least, heavy industry. And then there is energy that can be produced in Europe, just as we have the technological value chains behind it. Instead of only looking outside Europe's borders to find suppliers of fossil energy, we must invest heavily within our own ranks. Green investments in the EU create jobs and growth, and this is the only way to ensure a truly independent and self-sufficient Europe.
