TØNDER: The citizens of Tønder Municipality will now once again have the opportunity to have early influence on plans for new energy projects in the municipality. This has been the practice for some time, but in future, indicative votes will be held earlier in the process, so that the citizens' opinions are given greater weight before the municipal council selects the projects to be prioritized. The municipality has just received 24 new applications for wind turbine projects, which together include 114 large turbines between 150 and 200 meters. The goal is to replace old turbines with up to 125 modern models.
- We plan to hold the indicative local votes in late summer – in time for the municipal council to prioritize which projects should be planned before the end of the year, says Thomas Ørting Jørgensen, chairman of the climate, growth and development committee in Tønder Municipality, to JydskeVestkysten.
During the votes, citizens within a radius of 2.5 km from the project area will be encouraged to participate digitally via e-Boks. Previous votes in the municipality on solar cell projects have had low turnout and mixed results. The upcoming votes will be the first to deal with wind turbines. The results are indicative and not legally binding, but several parties have announced that they will pay attention to the residents' opinions.
