Newly elected President Donald Trump will withdraw the United States from the 2015 Paris Agreement, just as he did during his first term. This is stated in a document from the White House, published on Monday, writes the news agency Reuters.

The climate agreement was signed at the UN climate summit in Paris in 2015 and has since been a guideline for the world's countries in dealing with climate change.

The goal of the agreement is to limit the global temperature increase this century to well below two degrees and to try to keep the temperature increase to a maximum of 1.5 degrees.

The increase must be seen in relation to the temperature before industrialization, when the world's countries began to burn coal and oil and thus emit large amounts of CO2, which has contributed to the temperature increase.

Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement in 2017, after which the Americans rejoined the agreement under President Joe Biden.

Was not mentioned in the inauguration speech

A few days after the presidential election in November, several American media outlets - including The New York Times and CNN - wrote - that Trump planned to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. The media based their articles on information from anonymous sources. It is unknown when the United States will withdraw from the climate agreement.

In his inauguration speech, Trump did not mention the Paris Agreement, but he said, among other things, that he was declaring a national energy crisis in the United States.

- The inflation crisis was caused by massive overconsumption and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I am declaring a national energy crisis, he said in the speech after he was sworn in as president.

He wants to focus on oil and gas extraction, which is a clear departure from former President Joe Biden's climate-focused policy.
