RINGKØBING-SKJERN: At first, Mads Fuglede of the Danish Democrats stood to be elected mayor of Denmark's largest energy municipality, Ringkøbing-Skjern. However, that majority crumbled when the SF withdrew its support. Instead, a majority gathered around the Conservatives' one mandate in the form of Lennart Qvist.
But now the same majority that pointed to Lennert Qvist has instead pointed to Lone Andersen from the Liberal Party as the new mayor of the municipality. She said this at a press conference on Thursday.
The constitution consists of the Liberal Party, the Conservative Party, the Social Democrats and the SF. These are the same parties that pointed to Lennart Qvist a few days ago. The Liberal Party has 8 mandates out of 29 in the city council. The current majority consists of a total of 15 mandates. Lennart Qvist is now instead set to become the first deputy mayor of the municipality.
Will invite more parties
Asked if the Denmark Democrats and the Christian Democrats will be invited into the new constitution, Lennart Qvist says that this is the expectation.
- Their premise has been that it should be someone from the Liberal Party who reached out, and we have now agreed on that. Then we look forward to seeing if there is a real desire to be involved, he says at the press conference.
During the day, politicians from the constituted parties held a secret meeting in an industrial district in Skjern. This is reported by TV Midtvest, which on Thursday stood outside the building in which the meeting was held and saw the politicians' cars parked out front.
Lone Andersen will be the first female mayor in the history of Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality. She is not on the current city council, but was previously elected in the period 2009-2013. The likely future mayor acknowledges that the many changes in the mayoral position may seem untrustworthy to the citizens.
- Yes, I can understand that, but we have followed all the rules of the game in this, she says at the press conference.
Lone Andersen has held several chair positions. From 2005 to 2008, she was chair of the Rural District Council, and she has also previously been vice-chair of Agriculture & Food and chair of Family Farming.
In addition to her political activities, Lone Andersen runs an organic farm with her husband.
