"Vigtigheden af dagens udmelding om støtte til helt op til fem projekter i Danmark kombineret med de helt centrale tyske aftagskrav, svær at overvurdere", siger Tejs Laustsen Jensen, direktør i Brintbranchen

The European Commission has today selected nine hydrogen production projects under the third auction of the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB), which will receive a total of approximately €1.09 billion. Projects in seven countries in the European Economic Area have been supported, and together the projects are expected to deliver almost 1.1 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity and produce over 1.3 million tonnes of hydrogen over the first 10 years of operation.

- With over €1 billion invested in hydrogen innovation, the EU is once again using the revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System to strengthen Europe's industrial competitiveness. These investments accelerate the transition to clean energy and strengthen Europe's energy independence and security. It is also encouraging to see that Member States are using this tool to invest in more projects, says Wopke Hoekstra, EU Commissioner for Climate Action, Energy Neutrality and Climate Growth

Two Danish projects are among the winners. Thus, the companies Morgen and Hy2gen have won support in the EU's hydrogen auction and stand to receive billions in funding for their projects of 300 MW and 100 MW respectively. At the same time, three further unnamed Danish projects have been selected for support via an "auction-as-a-service" tender, which is targeted at Danish hydrogen production.

The award brings joy to Green Power Denmark.

- This is fantastic news for the production of green hydrogen in Denmark. This means that the companies are moving a big step closer to making final decisions to invest in the production of hydrogen. Of course, we must have the last important conditions regarding booking, terms and financing in place before the final investment decisions can be made, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.

The same tone is heard from the hydrogen industry, which, however, emphasizes that, among other things, there is still Contracts must be negotiated and capacity booked in the hydrogen pipeline at Energinet before the pipeline and projects can become a reality. But according to Tejs Laustsen Jensen, today's auction result is a breakthrough. Especially in conjunction with important German requirements for the consumption of green hydrogen, which will be formally adopted by the Federal Council in Berlin tomorrow. The new German off-take requirements will increase demand for Danish hydrogen significantly, and can now go hand in hand with the hydrogen bank's results:

- The importance of today's announcement of support for up to five projects in Denmark combined with the very central German off-take requirements is difficult to overestimate. It brings both Denmark and Europe significantly closer to a breakthrough for large-scale hydrogen. Because when we see both effective European support instruments and clear political signals about demand, the hydrogen market really starts to take shape, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen, Director of the Hydrogen Industry
