AABENRAA: Aabenraa Municipality has adopted a new strategy for Power-to-X and follow-up effects for the period 2026-2035. The strategy is intended to support long-term green business development with a focus on renewable energy and PtX, as well as create increased value creation for citizens and businesses. The municipality states this in a press release.
The strategy, Aabenraa Circular, is intended to promote circular resource use through the coupling of energy, supply and production sectors. Among other things, waste heat and wastewater are to be recycled as resources in new value chains, while PtX is to function as a driving force for sustainable production and the development of new businesses.
- I am proud of how we as a municipality and the business community are not afraid to take the lead and put Aabenraa on the map when it comes to green transition. We are taking untried paths, and we are also ambitious with clear goals for broad value creation. We have a vision that we believe in. And now, with the adoption of the strategy, we in the City Council have made the path to that tangible, says Jan Riber Jakobsen, mayor of Aabenraa Municipality.
Building on previous efforts
The strategy builds on previous efforts since 2024, when the municipality has worked purposefully with green business development. The world's first large-scale PtX plant has already been established in Kassø, and several new plants and follow-on projects are in the planning phase. The municipality has also decided to invest 20 million DKK in the development of technical water for PtX, data centers and follow-on companies. According to the municipality, the strategy should also serve as a signal to investors about a broad political basis.
- The strategy is a strong tool for investors who have become interested in Aabenraa as an industrial destination. They need to see a broad, political basis for their projects, and they have now received that. We work with industries with high innovation implementation, so there are enough risks for them to mitigate. The broad, political adoption of the Aabenraa Circular strategy clearly shows that we are working long-term and ambitiously to create growth and jobs with the green transition - and also how, says Head of PtX Development in Aabenraa Municipality, Hanne Klintøe.
