Hydrogen industry: Supply crisis shows need for Danish production of green aviation fuel

The shortage of aviation fuel as a result of the conflict in the Middle East shows the need to strengthen domestic production of eSAF, says the interest organization.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has recently issued a warning that Europe now only has six weeks of aviation fuel in stock. This warning shows the need to increase the production of green aviation fuel in Denmark and Europe, according to a press release from the Hydrogen Industry, where the organization states that the issue should be included in the current government negotiations.

According to the Hydrogen Industry, greater domestic production of eSAF can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and at the same time strengthen security of supply. The organization points out that Denmark has good conditions to become a producer of green aviation fuel based on green electricity within a few years.

- The IEA is now seriously calling for vigilance, and this underlines the serious situation that Europe is in. Vital parts of our economy are threatened due to a crisis far from here. It is a completely unsustainable dependency that we must and must free ourselves from, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen, director of Brintbranchen.

The Brintbranchen also emphasizes that a Danish production of eSAF will not solve the current crisis in the short term. According to the organization, it is also about avoiding a similar situation in the future through long-term solutions for both civil aviation and the defense's fuel needs.

- Over the past few years, we have repeatedly demonstrated how energy and energy supply are central to the geopolitical struggle that is currently unfolding around the world. An uncertain and interrupted supply of fuel - such as the one we are now experiencing in the aviation sector - has potentially major consequences for all parts of society, including our military combat power. Danish production of green aviation fuel will support both civil aviation, but perhaps even more importantly also the defense's need for jet fuel. It is therefore also a central security policy priority, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen.

The organization also emphasizes that green aviation fuels can contribute to security of supply, support military needs and reduce aviation's climate impact. Therefore, the area should be given high priority in the government framework currently being negotiated.
