A new energy project in Lemvig could lead to the establishment of the world's first XtP plant, where green ammonia is converted into electricity. The municipality has submitted the plans for public consultation as part of the work on a new local plan for the area at Ramme. The project was initiated by Skovgaard Energy, which wants to build the plant in connection with the existing PtX plant. Here, ammonia will be used in an experimental engine that can produce electricity, which can either be sent to the electricity grid or stored in batteries. This is reported by DR.

The project should be seen as a supplement to the existing PtX plant and can help develop new ways of storing and using energy, where ammonia functions as an energy carrier. The plant will also be used to develop and test engines that can run on green ammonia. This is being done in collaboration with, among others, DTU and the German company Everllence. According to Brian Vad Mathiesen from Aalborg University, the project is interesting because it can contribute to a more flexible use of renewable energy.

- It is always a solution that will be more expensive than using fossil fuels. But if we are going to get rid of fossil fuels, then this is a solution for a lot of things, says Brian Vad Mathiesen, who is a professor at the Department of Sustainability and Planning at Aalborg University.
