The price of gold has risen to a record high after US President Donald Trump's extensive tariff package, which has sent shockwaves through global financial markets. Gold is one of the few commodities not affected by the new tariffs. This is reported by the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger.
According to the newspaper, the price of an ounce of gold (approximately 31.1 grams) rose overnight to $3,167.84, equivalent to approximately DKK 22,100, on the London Stock Exchange. Later, gold was traded at $3,149 – approximately DKK 21,950. Gold has thus risen by 20 percent since the beginning of the year. In the previous three years, the price rose by almost 50 percent.
According to the newspaper, US tariff policy is one of the factors that has driven up the price of gold, along with the general uncertainty caused by wars and conflicts. At the same time, investors are looking towards traditional safe havens such as gold and government bonds.
Gold can be found in very small quantities in certain high-tech compounds, such as in advanced electronics or contacts, but it is not widespread or necessary in mass production.
