GreenGo Energy withdrew the majority of its solar and wind turbine applications for the Megaton project in Ringkøbing-Skjern three weeks ago. Now, the company's project development director Jacob Hänel Christensen is commenting on the decision for the first time, acknowledging that the process failed to secure local support. This is reported by Dagbladet Ringkøbing-Skjern.
"We must acknowledge that the Megaton process has not succeeded in creating local support. So for future projects, the process must be reconsidered, Jacob Hänel Christensen states in a written response to the local media.
In the written response, he also denies that the project has been abandoned, but emphasizes that it is now being adapted to new requirements for fuels in the EU. At the same time, he confirms that the changes have led to layoffs at the office in Ringkøbing, as the development of the original projects is being paused. In the future, GreenGo will instead focus on fewer, already approved plants and convert Megaton to production of biomethanol, which requires less electricity than the previously planned e-methanol. The collaboration with local biogas players is not intended to be further developed at this time.
