GreenGo maintains plans for PtX plant despite Megaton downscaling

2. JUN 2025 15.24

GreenGo Energy is maintaining its application to build a Power-to-X factory in Stovstrup, even though the company has recently announced that it is withdrawing a number of other renewable energy projects that were part of the giant project 'Megaton'. This is according to Dagbladet Ringkøbing-Skjern in an email from GreenGo Energy to Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality, which was published in connection with the municipality's technical and environmental committee meeting earlier this week. The email states that the PtX project in Stovstrup is not among those shelved.

"According to the press release that we have just issued, GreenGo Energy, due to changed requirements in the EU for the production of fuels for the transport sector, only wishes to maintain the submitted application for wind turbines in Nørhede-Hjortmose and at the Megaton factory itself. This also means that the rest of our applications for renewable energy plants for Megaton are not maintained for the time being," writes Jacob Hänel Christensen, Project Development Director at GreenGo Energy.

The new Megaton project will be significantly reduced. The plans for 1,000 hectares of solar cells and 30 wind turbines have been scrapped. Instead, GreenGo is making do with 650 hectares of solar cells in Nørhede-Hjortmose and Gestenge, which have already been granted permission, as well as a new wind turbine project in Nørhede-Hjortmose – reduced from 12 to eight turbines of 180 meters. The company has also changed the type of fuel. Instead of e-methanol, GreenGo will produce bioethanol, which requires significantly less energy.
