Bornholm is to be a green hub with the Bornholm Energy Island as the center of green development. That is why the Minister of Business and Industry was on Bornholm yesterday to, among other things, discuss the possibilities for the realization of a green business park. The business park is to help ensure that Bornholm exploits the great potential for growth and development that follows in the wake of the energy island. This is stated in a press release from the Ministry of Business and Industry.

- Denmark's green positions of strength are sought after around the world. But we must not sleep in the hour. That is precisely why we as a government have also done a lot to put even more pressure on the green transition and the development of green solutions. Bornholm plays a central role here. Because it is a textbook example of how the green transition also creates growth and jobs. Today we are taking the next step, which could become an important building block in Bornholm's development, and a strong contribution to Denmark's green strength, says Minister of Industry Morten Bødskov (S).

Unique opportunity

It is a potential that the local mayor can recognize.

Bornholm is facing a unique opportunity that can potentially change and develop the entire island. We want to seize that opportunity. The agreement on energy parks is an important step in the right direction if the full potential of the Bornholm Energy Island is to be realized. We look forward to a constructive dialogue on how state engagement and compensation for neighbors and local communities can contribute to green business development and a sustainable society, says Mayor Jacob Trøst (C).

The background to the minister's visit is the political agreement on energy parks on land from December 2023 between the government and a broad majority of the parties in the Danish Parliament, which will initiate a dialogue between the Ministry of Business and Industry and other relevant ministries and the Bornholm Regional Municipality on the possibilities for realizing a business park on Bornholm based on the same terms that apply to the energy parks. A partnership agreement was entered into in the autumn of 2022 on the development of the business lighthouse for Bornholm as a hub for the development, testing and demonstration of green energy. The partnership consists of the consortium behind the business lighthouse, the state, the Danish Business Development Board and the board of directors of Erhvervs hus Hovedstaden's branch on Bornholm.

A key next step in the development of the business lighthouse is the realization of a business park that will utilize the business potential resulting from the upcoming Energy Island Bornholm. A comprehensive road map for the realization of the business park has now been prepared.
