21-year-old Jakob Nielsen has just had his professional skills as a small blacksmith validated on the big stage at the World Skills Championships in France. This is what TEKNIQ Employers writes in a press release.
This evening, the young small blacksmith apprentice from South Jutland received the Medallion for Excellence, which is of course overwhelming.
- It is a huge honor to receive the Medallion for Excellence. It shows that all the hard work and dedication has paid off, even though I am not on the podium. I am incredibly proud and grateful for the support from my coach and company, says Jakob Nielsen.
The Medallion of Excellence goes to participants who score over 700 out of 800 possible points in the competition - even if it does not result in a podium place.
From Vojens to Lyon
The World Skills Championship has been underway in Lyon since September 10th and ends today with the medal ceremony. Over several days, young people from all over the world have competed against each other in a wide range of professional disciplines.
Jakob Nielsen is currently an apprentice as a blacksmith at Damgaard Metal in Vojens. Earlier this year, he won the Danish Skills Championship, but unlike the Danish version, he has only competed in various welding disciplines, as there is no specific blacksmith competition for the World Skills Championship. This has required extra training leading up to the competition.
- I train intensively most of the time after work. But much of what I do at my workplace is also relevant training. I have full support and interest from the masters. They are with me all the way, says Jakob Nielsen.
A shining star
In TEKNIQ Arbejdsgiverne, which organizes companies in the technical business community, Jakob Nielsen is a shining example of the starry sky of talent that can hopefully inspire other young people to follow the same path.
- We know that there will be an increasing shortage of skilled workers in technical professions in the coming years. When we also want to keep the green transition going and ensure a well-functioning business community in the future, one of the solutions is to inspire more people to choose a career as a skilled worker. So in addition to being a truly great achievement on a personal level for Jakob, it can hopefully also inspire other young people, says Maria Schougaard Berntsen, deputy director of TEKNIQ Arbejdsgiverne.
