
Germany will halve its dependence on Russian oil by the summer. This is stated in a draft from the German Ministry of Economics. Der Spiegel magazine writes.
At the same time, imports of Russian coal will end from the autumn, it says. This is a reaction to Russia's attack on Ukraine.
- By the middle of the year, oil imports to Germany are expected to be halved. By the end of the year, we aim to be almost independent, the document states.
- By the autumn, Germany could be independent of Russian coal, it continues.
A spokesman for the German ministry does not want to comment on the information. But says that Economics Minister Robert Habeck will raise the issue at a press conference.
Possible LNG agreement with the USA
The document, which Der Spiegel has read, states that Germany cannot afford to exclude Russian energy. Here, Russian gas plays by far the biggest role.

38 percent of the natural gas that Germany uses comes from Russia.
The President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will meet with US President Joe Biden on Friday morning. He has been in Brussels to participate in meetings in NATO, the G7 and the EU to seek a common front against Russia. Leyen and Biden are expected to conclude an agreement for the US to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the EU in an attempt to free Europe from Russian natural gas.
Der Spiegel writes that the German government has secured an "option" on three floating terminals for importing liquefied natural gas.
- The German government is currently investigating possible locations in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, where they can be used within a short time. In some cases already in the winter of 2022/23, according to the draft from the Ministry of Economics.
The German Minister of Economics was in Qatar over the weekend. Here he signed an agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas.
