The operator of the Tyra field, TotalEnergies, has now re-established the connection to the pipeline between the Tyra field and Denmark.
This means that it is now possible to export gas again. However, this will only happen when the field resumes production in the winter season 2023/24. However, the re-establishment is an important step towards reopening production on the field.
With the re-establishment of the export pipeline, the largest infrastructure project in the Danish part of the North Sea is close to completion. When Tyra is fully operational, the field will deliver 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year, once again making Denmark a net exporter and self-sufficient in natural gas.
- This week, our dedicated offshore teams have completed the extensive work of installing the connection coil on the Tyra East Echo platform, which is part of a larger project that has been underway for around five years. With this important structure in place, the Tyra facilities are now reconnected to Denmark, paving the way for future gas exports, says Lars Bo Christiansen, Deputy Director of the Tyra reconstruction project at TotalEnergies EP Danmark A/S, in a press release.
As part of the reconstruction of Tyra, eight new platforms have been constructed onshore and successfully installed in the Danish part of the North Sea.
One of these new platforms is the so-called riser platform Tyra East Echo or "TEE" for short. The platform represents an important hub for gas in the Danish part of the North Sea. Here, the gas will arrive from the surrounding fields and travel on towards Denmark and Europe.
There are more than 1,500 people at sea and over 250 people on land working on the final conversion, including connecting cables and pipes, installing compressors and testing the facilities prior to the extraction of the first gas.
