US President Donald Trump says he is "very angry" and "pissed off" with Russian President Vladimir Putin over comments he made about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the need for new leadership in Ukraine. This is reported by the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger.
- I was very angry and furious when Putin spoke disparagingly about the president of Ukraine and started talking about a new leadership in the country, says Trump, who is president of the United States.
He also stated that he is planning a new conversation with Putin in the coming days, without specifying when. Their last conversation took place on March 19. The statements were made in an interview with the American media NBC, and that part of the interview was later shared from the White House's official account on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
Trump emphasizes that he will impose tariffs on Russian oil if, according to him, Russia is to blame for the war in Ukraine.
- If I believe that it is Russia's fault - which it may not be - but if I believe it, then I will impose secondary tariffs on oil. On all oil that comes from Russia, says Trump.
He mentions that the tariff will be 25 percent and can be imposed at any time. Similar tariff threats have previously been directed at Venezuela. The so-called secondary tariffs affect not only the country in question, but also the countries that trade with it. In practice, this means that the US can impose tariffs on goods from, for example, India or China if they continue to import oil from Russia.
