Despite the decline of other ports: The Port of Rønne does not fear billions in debt

BORNHOLM: Several ports, such as Hanstholm Port and Frederikshavn Port, have been taken over by their respective municipalities in recent years due to large debt items resulting from investments that have not generated sufficient new income, in order to ensure their continued operation.

However, that fate is not feared at Rønne Port, despite the fact that the port has incurred 1.3 billion kroner in debt in connection with a major port expansion, and the debt is expected to increase further by several hundred million. Nevertheless, the port's management is not worried about the economy. This is reported by TV2 Bornholm.

- We are thinking the other way around. When we take on debt and make investments, we must have a business basis that enables us to take them, says Lars Nordahl, CEO of the Port of Rønne. According to the director, there is no prospect of a decline in one of the most important sources of income: offshore wind. The Port of Rønne already has contracts for offshore wind projects until 2028 and expects several new projects in the Baltic Sea in the coming years. With the current basis, the director expects that the debt can be settled over 12-14 years.
