FREDERIKSHAVN: There has long been great unrest regarding the finances of Frederikshavn Port, which was struggling with a debt of over 1.5 billion. DKK. This culminated in the city council in the municipality taking over the operation of the port earlier this year, which thus went from a municipal self-governing port to a municipal port.
However, the last accounts from the time of self-government still had to be presented. It showed a deficit of 340 million. DKK. The accounts have been discussed several times in the city council, which refuses to sign them, most recently this week the signature was once again rejected by the finance committee. It is otherwise a requirement that the accounts of a self-governing port must be approved by the municipal council in the owner municipality. This has been stated by the Danish Transport Authority following an inquiry from the municipality. However, the municipal politicians do not believe that they are obliged to sign the accounts, as the port has now become municipal. This is reported by TV2 Nord, which writes that the Danish Transport Authority states that due to the change in ownership structure, this is a special situation that falls outside the scope of the Port Act.
- We have read the papers, and they state that we are not obliged to sign, as it is an account for the self-governing port, and there is no board for it, says Mayor Karsten Thomsen (S), who will however again discuss the matter at a city council meeting next week.
