Supporting parties want to phase out gas boilers for more climate-friendly solutions and link it to negotiations on heat checks.

It's just gas, but the Radicals believe that this form of heating has an impact on the climate, the economy of citizens and security in Europe. That is why the party is now making a counter-demand in the negotiations about a heat check before the party will agree to an agreement. This is according to energy spokesman Rasmus Helveg Petersen (R).

- It is our condition for supporting heating aid that we stop installing new gas boilers and phase out gas for heating. We must do this for the sake of the climate, for the sake of European stability and security and of course the economy, he says.

Otherwise, the party will not be part of a possible agreement that gives a tax-free check to the families who are hardest hit by high energy prices.

- No, it is our demand that we get a proper gas solution in the long term, which goes further than a here and now solution, he says.

Wants a plan for phasing out

He emphasizes that gas is a fossil form of energy, so the agreement supports people using gas, which is not the most environmentally friendly form of heating. The Radicals demand a plan for phasing out the approximately 380,000 natural gas boilers in Denmark, and that the government take up the matter with the EU Commission, as the union's rules stand in the way.

Therefore, Helveg Petersen imagines a declaration of intent from the government that it will fight for Denmark to be allowed to phase out gas for space heating. Citizens will have to pay for scrapping the gas boiler themselves.

- Basically, you have to pay for your own heat source, but there are different ways to get subsidies, says Rasmus Helveg Petersen, who points out that other heat sources are cheaper.

SF has proposed a climate tax of 50,000 kroner if you replace your old natural gas boiler with a new one. The party would like to be part of the demand for an agreement.

- It is absolutely obvious to link emergency heating aid with an increased pace of the green transition to retire natural gas. In SF, we have long believed that there should be a stop, and we are very happy that it is now part of the negotiations, says energy spokesman Signe Munk (SF).

The Unity Party is also open to the idea.

- It is strange that you can install gas boilers in 2022, but it is actually happening on a fairly large scale. It is legal in the EU to sell gas boilers, and we would like to see a stop to new installations as soon as possible, says energy spokesman Søren Egge Rasmussen (EL).
