Danish Energy Agency :
Increased preparedness in Germany changes nothing in Denmark

Germany has today moved up to alert level 2 - the so-called "Alert" level. Denmark declared "Early warning" on Monday, which is a lower alert level. Germany's announcement does not change that.

The fronts have been heated up between Europe and Russia due to the war in Ukraine. The EU has adopted sanctions against, among other things, Russian oil, but Russia is also responding. Most recently, Gazprom last week - without warning - reduced gas deliveries via Nord Stream 1 by first 40 percent and then 60 percent.

Russia blames repairs to the gas line for the decline in deliveries, Germany believes the Russians are using gas as a political weapon. It has previously been announced that Nord Stream 1 will close completely from July 11 to July 21 in connection with a major renovation.

The decline in deliveries has prompted several countries to increase their preparedness. Denmark declared so-called "Early warning" on Monday, which is readiness level 1. Denmark's neighboring country to the south, however, has taken a step further and has today moved up to the second highest readiness level "Alert".

However, Germany is also significantly more dependent on Russian gas than Denmark is, which is why the German announcement will not have any impact on Denmark's readiness, the Danish Energy Agency states.

- Germany's announcement does not change Denmark's situation. Gas is still coming to Denmark from Germany, and gas is being filled in the storage facilities. It is summer and therefore gas consumption is lower, and we produce biogas, which covers a large part of the current consumption. But we are monitoring the situation closely and keeping an eye on whether there are further changes in the supply situation, says Deputy Director Martin Hansen from the Danish Energy Agency in a press release.
