When Novozymes and Chr. Hansen merge into one company soon, it will be under a new name. Novonesis will be the name of the merged company, according to a press release.

The first half of the new company name refers both to the Latin "novo", which means new, but also to Novo Nordisk, from which Novozymes originated. The second half of the new company name is taken from the Greek word "genesis", which means beginning. Ester Baiget, CEO of Novozymes, says about the name change:

- Novonesis reflects where we come from, what we can achieve and what we can become together. We are here to begin a new era in biotech solutions. That is why we have chosen to call our new company Novonesis, which means "a new beginning", she says.

Fusion will have over 10,000 employees

The new, global company will have more than 10,000 employees specializing in the production of enzymes used in the production of food, fuel, washing powder and much more.

The merger is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of next year. Approval from competition authorities in some countries and regions is still needed.

Among other things, the EU has demanded that the companies divest their business within the production of lactase enzymes. This has just happened, and that should have cleared the way. However, the green light from the authorities in South Korea is still missing.

Chr. Hansen and Novozymes are each among the world's largest enzyme producers.
