THISTED: There have been many problems at Hanstholm Port. A port expansion to over 600 million DKK did not lead to any significant new income. This left the port with an unmanageable debt in relation to income, which resulted in the politicians in Thisted Municipality deciding to take over the operation of the port, which had previously functioned as a self-governing port. The takeover came into effect on 1 January 2023.

The takeover also initially seems to be a good idea. In any case, 2022, which was Hanstholm Port's last as a self-governing port, was not the year in which the port turned the tide and made money. Instead, the port had to record a deficit of 13.7 million DKK. However, the result is 3.9 million. DKK better than the year before, writes Nordjyske.

After the return, Thisted Municipality expects new times for the port. Thus, the port is expected to land an operating profit of 9.6 million DKK this year before construction, interest, repayments and borrowing. The port has also achieved a loan advantage after changing to a municipal port. Thus, at the turn of the year, five of the port's loans were converted with Kommunekredit and a capital gain was achieved.

"As a consequence of the current interest rate level in relation to the level when the loans were taken out, the conversion cut DKK 92 million of the remaining debt from DKK 546 million to DKK 454 million. In return, the interest rate increased from an average of 1.49 percent to now 3.41 percent. The interest payment thus increases annually from DKK 8.2 million to DKK 15.5 million," according to the newspaper, according to the presentation to the finance committee.
