2022 was a really good year for the Port of Hirtshals - in fact, it was a record year in terms of revenue. It came in at 84.9 million DKK, which is an increase of almost 12 percent compared to the previous year, the port said in a press release.
The revenue and result, which amounted to a profit of 6.4 million DKK before tax, were primarily due to a normalization of car and passenger traffic, which is now back at the same activity level as in 2019. At the same time, the volume of goods increased by 8.2 percent from 2019 to 2022.
- Despite rising prices for, among other things, electricity, maintenance tasks and oil caused by the geopolitical circumstances, we have still managed to land a satisfactory result, not least because we had calculated with large increases in expenses. We are of course very proud of that, says Chairman of the Board of the Port of Hirtshals Anker Laden-Andersen.
In addition, the port has also experienced an increase in fishing for the second year in a row, with revenue for the Fish Auction North increasing by 17 percent. compared to 2021.
Ambitions for the green transition
In 2022, intensive work was also carried out on capital investments for the preparatory work in connection with the port expansion. The expansion includes, among other things, a new entrance and an outer foreport basin, which will significantly improve the entrance conditions, so that it will be possible to call at the port both with larger ships and in harsher weather.
At the same time, the expansion will provide space for the establishment of additional staging and commercial areas, so that there will be even better space to, among other things, realize the port's steadily increasing activities within the green transition.
- During 2022, we have worked intensively to land several specific agreements on partnerships, all of which have CO2 reduction as a common denominator - for example, the agreement regarding Greenport Scandinavia with, among others, INEOS Energy on the shipment of CO2 from biogas plants in North Jutland. 2023 has also already got off to a good start with, among other things, the agreement to establish a tank facility with liquefied natural gas (LNG) for heavy traffic. Greenport North, which works with green development projects at the Port of Hirtshals, has a large share of the credit for the realization of these projects, which will only intensify in the coming years, says Per Holm Nørgaard, CEO of the Port of Hirtshals.
