It came as a big surprise to the now former CEO of the Port of Hirtshals, Jens Kirketerp Jensen, when he received a dismissal letter before Christmas.
The dismissal came on the heels of an external consultant study of the port, which assessed that Jens Kirketerp Jensen and the rest of the management at the time did not have sufficient skills to realize the port's development potential. An assessment with which Jens Kirketerp Jensen strongly disagreed.
- I have not seen the report, but I have difficulty finding the argument that I could not take on the task, he stated in connection with the dismissal of DK Havenergi.
When the dismissal was announced publicly recently, the Port of Hirtshals indicated that it wanted to retain Jens Kirketerp Jensen's skills in the company in another role.
The outgoing director was not averse to it if the role he was offered was attractive. Therefore, he also continued his work throughout his notice period, which ran until December 31st of this year.
However, it has not been possible for the parties to reach a satisfactory solution for continued cooperation. Thus, the Port of Hirtshals has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Jens Kirketerp Jensen to resign from his position immediately and from now on simply be available to the port until the end of his notice period on December 31st, 2021.
- We would have liked to see a continued connection to the port, but at the same time we naturally respect Jens' decision, says Anker Laden-Andersen, Chairman of the Board at the Port of Hirtshals.
New acting port director
The process of finding a new director for the Port of Hirtshals has already been initiated, and it is expected to reach its conclusion during the second quarter of this year.
To handle the port's business during the recruitment process, the board of directors of the Port of Hirtshals has appointed Technical Director at Hjørring Municipality Andreas Duus as acting CEO. By virtue of his previous position, Andreas Duus has extensive knowledge of the Port of Hirtshals and not least its customers and users, the port informs.
- I am sure that Andreas will effectively handle the interests of both the port and its customers and users until we have found a new leader. At the same time, I am convinced that he will receive great support from the port's staff, who make a great effort for the Port of Hirtshals every day, concludes Laden-Andersen.
